Obituary of Rev. Norman E. Poupore

Rev. Norman E. Poupore, 91, died on November 24, 2014 at his home in Pierrepont Manor. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 28, 2014 at St. Patrick’s Church, Watertown at 11 a.m. with the Most Reverend Terry LaValley, Bishop of Ogdensburg presiding and the priests of the diocese concelebrating. The homilist will be Rev. Douglas Decker, pastor of St. Alphonsus/Holy Name parish in Tupper Lake, NY. There will be viewing of the body at 9:00 a.m., concluding at 10:30, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in the priests’ plot at Glenwood Cemetery, Watertown. Arrangements are with the Piddock Funeral Home, Adams, NY. Father was born in Churubusco, NY on November 2, 1923 son of the late Eugene and Martha Denault Poupore. He attended St. Joseph’s Ursuline Academy in Malone, NY and in 1943 entered Wadhams Hall. In 1946 Father studied at St. Augustine Seminary in Toronto, Ontario Canada. He was ordained in St. Mary’s Church, Canton on March 4, 1950 by Bishop Bryan J. McEntegart. Father Poupore’s first assignment was as assistant pastor at St. Patrick’s, Port Henry, followed by assignment as assistant at St. Alexander’s, Morrisonville; later he was appointed pastor of Church of the Assumption, Redford; St. Cecilia’s, Adams , St. James, Gouverneur, and St. Helens, Chasm Falls. Father took a health leave in 1986. In December, 1998, he retired. During his retirement and most recently with his declining health and illness, Father was ministered to by his wonderful caregiver, Mrs. Teresa Boldman. He is predeceased by his four brothers, Hubert, Bernard, Wallace and Lester. Father is survived by his sister, Mrs. Madonna Towle of Malone, who is in failing health, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
